Frozen Screams Imprint unveils the destructive debut full-length from SCREWED out of Portland, Oregon. With a fresh + unique take on the classic HM-2 sound as its foundation, the album layers multiple influences from a complex palette of death metal, hardcore, d-beat, raw punk, powerviolence + harsh noise, striking angst-ridden lyrics against a wall of uncomfortable sound to paint a grim portrait of a world gone mad — and a society on the brink of collapse — caving into a constant cycle of fear, intimidation + manipulation.

In these dark + uncertain times, SCREWED shines a light on the subconscious pain + misery inflicted on us unwillingly by the powers that be — and challenges us to think before blindly falling in line. However, this record does not aim to “take sides” — rather, to simply point out the hypocrisy + dangerous agendas that come from all sides of life + politics.

An outstanding Extreme doom death album, in the best tradition. The funerary atmosphere reminds of Evoken ('Centuries of ooze" bears striking similarities, for my delight). It is overall sharp, dark, hypnotic and unrelenting. One of those rare convincing new bands that hold proud the legacy of the biggest names. Bertrand Marchal
